Screening Trees

It is hard to maintain privacy if you live in a flat or where homes are close together, but there are definitely some additions you can make to your yard when gardening that will help.  Photinia, Leylandii, Bamboo, Ilex Holly, and English Laurel are five ideal screening trees, which are attractive and offer you privacy.  The five trees are evergreen trees, so they will grow very quickly to provide you the seclusion you wish to have.

Photinia trees include a genus of about 40 to 60 species of small trees and large shrubs.  They are mostly native to Asia; however, there are some North American species that work well in the United Kingdom.  These trees flower in early summer, with rounded white petals and a hawthorn like scent.  Leylandii trees are actually hedges of green or gold.  While they do get some bad press due to their fast growth they are also great for reducing pollution.  Leylandii are often sought because they help provide that screen you desire in mere months, whereas other trees can take years.  These screening trees do require maintenance such as pruning.

Bamboo is a highly popular plant due to the growth and height they can reach.  Bamboo is native to Asia; however, it is a very hardy plant that can live just about anywhere.  Bamboo can reach its full height in three to four months.  Holly may remind you of Christmas time, but for anyone looking to add a little screen around their garden the Ilex Holly is a great choice.  They can tolerate sun and shade as well as slightly acidic soil.  English Holly can grow over fifty feet or taller and should be planted in early spring.  English Laurel trees grow up to 5 to 6 metres in height with dark green leaves that are rather leathery but great for shading.
