Tips For Planting Trees

When it comes to landscaping, trees are an important component that cannot be overlooked. At the same time, trees are one of the more expensive additions to your garden. Therefore, care must be taken to plant them properly in order to guarantee them a good start. Remember, the better a tree is planted, the faster it will grow and the stronger it will be.

When you purchase a new tree for your landscape, it is important to plant it as soon as possible. If you have to postpone planting for any reason, you can keep your new tree protected by keeping it in a cool and shady location. In addition, it must be kept away from wind because it will dry out the roots.

Before you do plant your tree, be sure to soak it in water for at least a few hours. This way, the roots will be well watered and capable of enjoying a better start once planted.

When selecting the location for your new tree, you need to consider how the tree will look when full grown. Imagine how it will fill out your landscape and be sure to plant it in a location that will not be problematic in the future.

Once your location is picked out, it is time to start digging. Since tree roots spread sideways and need to penetrate the soil as they grow, it is important to dig a very big hole for your tree. It isn’t necessary to dig a particularly deep hole, just take care to make it wide.

Before filling the hole back in, place a firm stake next to your tree. The stake should be no more than 1/3 the height of the tree you are planting and it should be placed on the side of the tree that will receive the most wind.
