We've shared some of the questions our customers frequently ask - and if you have others - simply e-mail us. We are happy to help and make suggestions. "Our garden is overlooked and we want to plant something to act as a screen so we can enjoy our BBQ in peace! What can you suggest? Avoiding Leylandii conifers if possible ..." Mrs Frampton, Essex King & Co: For all year round screening we'd recommend Evergreens such as Holly, Eucalyptus, Bamboo, Yew, Laurel and Photinia 'Red Robin'. We have 'pleached' and 'espailier' varieties too - where the branches are trained over a timber frame - to give instant privacy at the right height! "We have a smaller garden so don't want a tree that will get too big. How far away from the house should we plant it? What type is best?" Mr Frost, Essex King & Co: For the smaller garden try Amelanchier Robin Hill, Malus Rudolph, Crataegus Prunifolia or Prunus accolade. Different trees may require planting further from the building. "What
are the largest conifers you do? Can you deliver nationwide?" King & Co: We have both Green and Castlewellan Gold Leylandii conifers at 3m tall. We can deliver too. Local deliveries are done ourselves, or further a field we use a very reliable carrier charged at cost depending on weight and distance. "We
have a large garden but it is exposed to the wind. We want to plant
several trees to try and address the problem. What would you suggest?" King & Co: Alders and Poplars can be used to form an effective windbreak. We can advise on other trees that are wind tolerant and salt tolerant by the sea. "I really want a Tree fern or an Olive tree - but I'm not sure they'd be hardy enough for our climate?" Mrs Phillips, Surrey King & Co: We don't supply anything that won't survive our climate! We do give advice on best positioning ie. Olives prefer a sheltered, sunny spot and the Tree ferns can be wrapped during the winter months to keep their fronds in tact. "How do we plant the tree? Or can you do it for us?" Mrs Davies, Essex King & Co: We have a leaflet with clear advice and tips on planting. Most trees need staking and we can supply the stakes, ties, tree shelters etc. Or for local planting, we can do it for you! "Can I keep our tree in the pot?" Mrs Giles, Norfolk King & Co: Yes, although in due course you might need to re-pot it into something bigger together with some extra feed. Trees kept in pots do need extra watering too. |
