Parrotia persica (Persian Ironwood)

The Persian Ironwood is another nugget waiting to reveal itself. A small, spreading tree with large oval leaves which turn crimson and dark red in the autumn. Greyish bark becoming yellow tinged. Tolerates most soils and just waiting to be discovered.

Paulownia tomentosa

Huge deep green leaves in the summer, a large tree with rapid growth rate. Wood can be very brittle, so will always need a sheltered position.

Platanus x hispanica (London Plane)

Will grow into a very large tree at maturity and has great merit in the UK's tree stock. Large leaves, a trunk that peels to reveal a fascinating bark and is very tolerant of windy environments. Add this to it's ability to withstand pollution and you've got a remarkable specimen or avenue tree.

Populus alba (White Poplar)

Makes a large tree with a very broad crown. Well used in exposed planting positions, and tolerant of salt laden winds. Green leaf on top, silver underneath. Needs plenty of room!

Another large tree noted for it's shimmering smaller leaves on a windy day. Golden colours as the autumn approaches. Tolerant of most soils.
