Betula albosinensis Fascination

This tree is a real secret waiting to be discovered. Larger leaves than the common birch with yellow catkins in spring. Fabulous pink and cream stem colour makes this tree another we highly recommend.

Betula ermanii

Betula Jacquemontii (Himalayan Birch)

Very popular tree with stark white bark that peels away with time. Grows well on most soils and is tolerant of pollution. Very effective when group planted. Highly recommended. Medium sized tree.

Betula nigra (River Birch)

The river birch is not very well known in the UK, but it is a valuable tree in our range. Has spectacular, brown peeling bark, a fairly upright habit and can survive in wetter areas. Small to medium sized tree.

Betula papyrifera (Paper Birch)

A beautiful form of birch with white 'papery' bark and lovely yellow autumn colour. Thrives in most soils. Medium sized tree.

Well known tree with slightly pendulous weeping form. Whitish bark and smallish leaves, a very graceful tree that is often seen planted in small gardens. A woodpecker's favourite residence!

The deeply cut leaves of this birch are really quite striking, with a tighter habit. Very effective in any planting scheme. A valuable specimen tree.

Carpinus betulus (Hornbeam)

Fantastic tree grown in many different shapes and sizes. Adores hard pruning and therefore lends itself to topiary shapes. We sell it in pleached, espalier and standard tree form. Thrives on clay soils.

Carpinus betulus Fastigiata

The upright form with a tighter crown. Increasingly used as an avenue tree as it's shape dictates formality. Usually branched almost to it's base and like most hornbeam provides spectactular golden colours in the autumn.

Castanea sativa (Sweet Chestnut)

A very distinctive tree with it's large serrated edged leaves and chestnut producing limbs. Catkins in the spring, beautiful bronzing leaves in the autumn, this tree prefers lighter, sandier soils. Often seen in a woodland setting.

Castanea sativa Variegata

Slower growing cultivar, noted for it's cream edged leaves, a smaller tree. Also prefers lighter soils, but some of our customers have established them locally.

Cercis siliquastrum (Judas Tree)

A small tree with a wide crown, the Judas tree is a must for tree enthusiasts. Takes time to establish itself and provides an alternative for hot sunny positions. Pink flowers produced on the stem and lateral branches, followed by large seed pods later.

Corylus colurna (Turkish hazel)

A medium sized tree, the Turkish hazel is noted for it's rough, corky bark providing good winter interest and texture. Yellow catkins in the spring, nuts in the autumn.

Crataegus laevigata Pauls Scarlet

A widely planted type of hawthorn valued for it's double red flowers in May. Does well in almost any soil and is well suited to the smaller garden. Recommended.

Crataegus x lavallei (Hybrid Cockspur Thorn)

Glossy leaves, large white flowers, red haws through the winter months, and not as sharp as other thorns. No wonder it is a favourite at The Tree Nursery!
